Lanquín, Guatemala: Home to the Sacred Waters of Semuc Champey

We arrived in Lanquín Guatemala after being packed like sardines on an Eight hours bus trip from Tikal. The burnt foliage from the ubiquitous and burn stung our noses as we left the bus onto the orange mud road that had led us into the depths of the Mayan jungle. We would come for Semuc Champey Mayan for Sacred Waters. A turquoise lagoon flows from an underground cave in the middle of the jungle beckoning visitors to bathe with the fish. Colorful clad Maya sat at the water’s edge observing us with reluctant fascination when we graciously explored their sacred oasis.
